Australia try to sledge Virat Kohli at Eden Gardens but it backfires again!

first_imgAustralian wicketkeeper Matthew Wade and all-rounder Marcus Stoinis tried to sledge Virat Kohli when the Indian captain was nearing his 31st ODI hundred in the second match at the Eden Gardens.Kohli has been Australia’s prime target over the years and the likes of Mitchell Johnson and Brad Haddin tried to get under his skin during India’s tour down under in 2014-15.Then there was that episode with James Faulkner in Australia when India went back for a limited-overs series. Kohli responded with two hundreds and two fifties in the ODIs before hammering three successive half-centuries to steer India to a 3-0 victory in the T20 International series.BCCI Photo In India earlier this year, Kohli was particularly peeved with Australia skipper Steve Smith when he looked up to the dressing room for help with the DRS in the Bengaluru Test.Smith later clarified it was a brain-fade moment but Kohli rubbished that claim and stopped short of calling the episode an act of cheating.Former Australian pacer Jason Gillespie had warned Smith’s men against sledging Kohli. The first ODI seemed to be played out in reasonably good spirits but in the energy-sapping conditions in Kolkata, tempers flared and Wade made the mistake of trying to speak to Kohli. The Indian captain responded but he did not seem to lose his cool and had a constant smile on his face even as Wade looked rattled. The Australian wicketkeeper had also sledged Ravindra Jadeja in the Dharamsala Test but the Indian all-rounder responded with a match-winning half-century and some choice words of his own.advertisementlast_img read more
